Youth Ministry: jGYM (School Years 6-9)

  • jGYM: For School Years 6-9. Every Friday (term time), 6-8pm, St Joseph's Church Hall

  • jGYM is an open, accepting, non-judgemental and fun environment for young people in the Guildford area where they can grow as a community.

  • jGYM aims to provide young people with opportunities to come to know Jesus in a personal way, either developing a deeper relationship with Him or experiencing Him for the first time.

What is jGYM?

jGYM is a great space for all young people aged 10-13, school years 6-9, to meet together, make friends and get to know who God is.

What happens at a typical session?

The evening starts off with games, then we come together and share a lovely home cooked meal and yummy pudding. Then the faith teaching starts but it's not a boring lecture, we make it fun with small group activities, competitions and the occasional silly game.

What makes jGYM so special is that the small groups are led by a team of young leaders from our older group GYM. This is of course facilitated by Aseel the youth Coordinator and the rest of the adult leadership team.

Altogether it's a great couple of hours!

When does it happen?

Every Friday evening during term time. 6-8pm in St Joseph's Catholic Church Hall, Guildford.

Can I just show up?

Yes! jGYM is not exclusive to parishioners of the Catholic churches of Guildford. It is open to any young person who is desire to know Jesus more.

Resources

Every evening we have a teaching element that aims to inspire and strengthen the young peoples personal faith/life journey but also to strengthen their understanding of the Church.

In the last couple of years we have run some really great courses:

Urban Saints, Energize. This resources website provides a continual stream of adaptable, creative, biblically-based meeting plans for 5-7s, 7–10s, 11–14s and 15-18s. There's also a continual stream of drama sketches, articles and online training tools to inspire, encourage and equip. We've been using it for nearly a year and we really highly recommend it.

Youth Alpha (Active Stream). The Youth Alpha course is an opportunity for anyone (church goers or non-church goers alike!) to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed, non-threatening way over ten thought-provoking sessions.

Youth Alpha

LightLive, the Grid, a Scripture Union resource. The Grid is an exciting Bible-based online course from the LightLive series put together by Scripture Union.

Christianity Explored

Youth Freedom in Christ course. It offers a great mix of games, activities and reflections. The main chunk of teaching is covered through an engaging video series.
